Clark Heitmann has wanted a resort since
he was eight years old. Life didn't allow him to achieve his dream
until he was forty-five years old when he and his widowed mother, his
partner, bought the Horseshoe Resort in 2000. Clark is a carpenter and arborist by education and trade having spent 17 years in residential and commercial construction and ten years in forestry. His first job was in a hardware store after school and Saturdays during high school and technical college. He loves wood, from planting to trimming and cutting trees, from making firewood to building cabinets and furniture and laying hardwood |
| floors. He
has worked with the public all of his life and enjoys a large range of
personalities. He shares his knowledge of fishing and hunting with all
outdoor enthusiasts with whom he comes in contact. Over the years
here, his talents have provided him the opportunity to provide many new
amenities in the resort and to his customers. In the winter of 2004/5, Clark designed and served as general contractor during the construction of the Oaks, a four-plex of three bedroom units. He built the Pines, a small duplex by himself. Yes, he still enjoys picking up his hammer, but states the people enjoying his efforts are his real rewards. Having spent his vacations as a boy and a man fishing in Northern Minnesota and his weekends fishing in the reservoirs, small rivers and ponds and the Mississippi river in Iowa and Illinois, he earned the right to state he is an avid fisherman. He shot his first deer with his first bow and first license at 17 years old and is an accomplished black powder and high power marksman as he continues to hunt. He started running trap lines at 13. Winters in the seasonal resort business command many hours of maintenance and improvements to the property as well as customer relations and marketing, but also allow him leisure time for fishing and hunting today. Shot guns, rifles, fishing poles and ice rods are the decor in every corner of his home. Clark has three grown children and four grandchildren living in Iowa. Every year his oldest son and wife bring their daughter and son to Grandpa Clark's family resort and he encourages all his contracts to bring the whole family to Northern Minnesota for your next vacation. |
